2.  Raphael was born April 6, 1483 in Umbria, Italy where he spent a part of his childhood.  His Father taught him much of what he knows.  His mother died in 1491 followed by his father’s death in 1494.  Raphael was orphaned at age 11.

3.  Raphael then moved to Florence, Italy from 1504-1508.  There he studied and continued to paint.  At the end of 1508 Raphael moved to Rome, Italy.  He was also a printmaker and an architect.  Raphael was never married but, was engaged in 1514 to Maria Bibbiena.  Raphael died April 6, 1520 at age 37 in Rome, Italy.

8.  Raphael’s prestige gave his works a role in the creation and strengthening of political alliances.

9.  Raphael depicted many battles, both spiritual and physical.  Some of his favorite subjects were women.  Fun Fact: The Ninja Turtle Raphael was named after Raphael Sanzio! :D
