Do Now Sit in the same group as yesterday Clear your desk except for a pen/pencil in preparation for the Act I quiz

Prologue of Act II Open your group bag and distribute the “mini” prologue to everyone in the group. Glue it into your notebook (just like the first prologue we annotated) Work with the people at your table to annotate the prologue of Act II. Be ready to share out ideas in a few minutes as we will go over it together.

Act II, Scene i -Romeo leaves the feast, but doesn’t want to go home. -He tries to find Juliet. -He hops over a wall into an orchard at the Capulets’ -Benvolio & Mercutio call for him, but no answer. -Mercutio mocks Romeo’s feelings about Rosaline -Benvolio & Mercutio leave. They know Romeo doesn’t want to be found. -Romeo hears Mercutio’s teasing and says to himself that he doesn’t understand.

Quick Notes in Your Notebook 1. A soliloquy is an act of one speaking one’s thoughts aloud when by oneself, regardless of who’s nearby. 2. A monologue is a long speech addressed to characters (and audience of course)

Act II Scene ii of Study Guide Work with your partner to complete the paraphrase of Romeo’s soliloquy. Answer the three questions below his paraphrased soliloquy

On your white board answer the following: Romeo uses personification when talking to Juliet on page 823 -Find an example -Write the line number -Write what is being personified

Do Now Take out yesterday’s study guide Parts needed: Romeo Juliet Read 820-824. Stop at line 106 “Which the dark night hath so discovered”

SWITCH! Pages 826 starting at Romeo’s line, line 107 Need: -NEW Romeo -NEW Juliet -Nurse Stop at Scene 3

Finish answering questions Fill in Juliet’s soliloquy. Complete the 6 questions for scene ii. Stop when you get to Friar’s Lawrence’s questions.
