3. Stephen Austin goes to Mexico to negotiate peace between Mexico and Texans Mexican government and arrests Stephen Austin. Put in jail for two years without a trial. Austin encourages Texas to declare Independence. Returns to Texas

4. Mexican soldiers are chased away. Battle of Gonzalez October 1835 Mexican soldiers come to take back a cannon from the town. There is a small battle.

5. Battle of the Alamo Mexican President – Santa Anna leads his army to a fort called the Alamo. Leader of the Texans: William Barrett Travis February 23 – March 6 1838

6. Also in the Alamo: Jim Bowie Davy Crockett

7. The Mexican army surrounds the Alamo and begin a 13-day siege. Mexican army attacks and overruns the fort. All in the fort are killed except for the women and children. Motivates Texans to fight. Santa Anna moves on the town of Goliad.
