3. In division,the number that we divide is called thedividend. The number by which we divide is called the divisor. The answer is the quotient. If there is a number left over, it is called the remainder.

5. The four terms defined above are connected in the following manners: 1 2 1  — quotient x 2  —–– divisor —— 2 4 2 + 1  ———— remainder —— 2 4 3  ————— dividend —— Using this relationship, we can verify the answer of a division sum.

6. Formula for verification: Quoitent  divisor + remainder = dividend Ex. dividend = 7595 divisor = 5 quoitent = 1519 remainder= 0
