2 Peer Tutoring What is a peer tutor? A peer tutor is a student who works with other students that are struggling with classes and need help studying or completing homework. Tutors volunteer their time, but are rewarded with youth service hours on their transcript—volunteer service is one of the areas many admissions offices at colleges and employers will look at when considering an applicant.

3 Peer Tutoring How can I become a peer tutor? To become a tutor, fill out a peer tutoring form stating the subjects you can tutor and the days / times you are available. Students requesting a tutor fill out the same form. You can find copies of the peer tutoring form in the Counseling Office, Main Office, Student Services Office and the Volunteer Coordinator’s Office (room 103). Once you’ve completed the form, return it to your counselor or room 103.

4 Peer Tutoring When do the tutoring sessions take place? Most peer tutoring sessions take place during guided study (Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 9:18-9:48am). Marsha Newcomb, the Volunteer Coordinator, will match students with tutors, usually within one week of receiving the peer tutoring form. Once you’ve been assigned or placed with a tutor, you will receive notification paperwork and be expected to meet within one week.

5 Peer Tutoring Who do I see if I have questions? If you ever have questions about tutoring, please see Marsha Newcomb (room 103).
