Triangular Trade: Slave Trade Slavery in Africa, and much of the world, at this time was the result of defeat not based on race Caribbean and Southern planters wanted cheap labor to work on plantations but were reluctant to use indentured servants turned to slavery The Middle Passage Voyage took 3-4 months Slaves chained in rows on floors and shelves Ships could hold more than 600 slaves Slaves from different nations mixed together Made it difficult to talk and/or plan rebellions Slave Trade Video Slave Trade Video OBJECTIVE: SWBAT understand the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the Triangular Trade by examining primary and secondary sources STANDARDS: H.1.d

Journal of a Slave Trader & Dialogue Now that you have read the first hand account of Olaudah Equiano about the Middle Passage and John Newton’s opinion of the slave trade: Pretend that Olaudah Equiano and John Newton met one another in London in 1789 Write a short dialogue of their meeting using the information you have learned through this lesson What would they talk about? What questions would they ask each other? What would be those answers? How would they feel about each other?
