4 Ms. Teta’s Paragraph Additionally, historical figures and events have proven that risks are an integral part of success. Abolitionist John Brown illustrated the importance of taking risks during his raid on Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. In 1859, Brown and just 18 other men invaded the Harpers Ferry armory, hoping to start a rebellion by arming the region’s enslaved African Americans. Many individuals—including fellow abolitionist Frederick Douglass—thought that Brown’s plan was too risky. His life-threatening scheme seemed too extreme. However, the Harpers Ferry raid was ultimately responsible for starting the Civil War. Without Brown’s risk, abolitionists may never have defeated slavery. Thus, Brown’s actions prove that risks are a necessary part of success. Explain Counterclaim Outcome
