16 Newsletter Requirements We added two requirements and a best practice to the Newsletters page: http://www.eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/enews.html Requirements Don’t add subscribers to mailing lists they didn’t sign up for. Let them opt in. If you invite users to sign up for a new newsletter, only contact individuals you have an existing relationship with. Best Practices Avoid using images in newsletters whenever possible. Many of your readers have images turned off. This can negatively affect open rates. Additionally, images also affect a newsletter’s ability to resize—which negatively affects its responsive design.

17 Marketing URLs Finally, we’d like to remind you all of our Marketing URL guidelines: www.eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/domains.html Our standard format for marketing URLs is websitename.energy.gov. This is used in both publications and websites. We encourage all EERE websites to use these, so our marketing URLs are consistent. We don’t encourage EERE websites to use energy.gov/websitename redirects.
