Task analysis What? A process –To understand what constitutes optimal performance. – To determine what others need to know to perform at an optimal level. Why? If you suspect people are not performing optimally.

How to complete a task analysis. 1. List all the tasks (steps) that make up the job. 2. List the steps and decisions involved in performing each task. 3. Consider the following: –when is the task performed? –How is the task performed? –How do you know when you’re done?

Ways of listing tasks. 1. Listing. Like making a grocery list. 1,2,3,… 2. Flowcharting. Using rectangles to represent steps and diamonds to represent decisions in the task.

Examples listingflowcharting Task: Making Pizza When: Order comes in 1. Take order 2. Prepare dough 3. Spread sauce 4. Add toppings 5. Cook pizza 6. Put in box Completed? Customer picks up and pays. Task: Making Pizza When: Order comes in Take order Prepare dough Spread dough Complete? Customer picks up and pays.
