Basic Information: ANDREAS GURSKY Born 1955-still living Born in Leipzig His photography surrounds colorful, bold, large-format depictions of contemporary life. Largely influenced by his years at Folkwang and took away from Photojournalism the technique of shooting straight-shot pictures. He studied under professional photographers at the State Art Academy and was influenced by them as well. His work captures scenes that are immediately recognizable urban spaces, ranging from department stores and hotels to scenes in Germany and Chicago. His most famous pieces are the 99 cent and Paris, Montparnasse series. He didn’t really impact society

Personal Reflection: I chose Andreas Gursky to look at because of his technique in shooting vibrant, colorful and contemporary photos. His photos are simple and easily recognizable. He has a talent for finding different angles and viewpoints to take his photos. Gursky has numerous photos take straight on and numerous photos taken from a higher point. His photos were appealing to my eye with the large landscape and architecture based photos.
