Talk Read Talk Write: The Bill Rights

Divide a sheet of paper into quarters.

Label Upper Left: TALK 1 Have you been in a situation where you felt like your individual rights had been violated? Copy this stem, and complete it: “I felt my rights were violated when…” Share with a partner Group share

Label Upper Right: READ Skim your notes. Identify the amendments you understand the least. Skim ch 6.2 for information on those amendments. Jot a few notes to help you understand and remember them. Talk with your partner and try to help each other figure out what those challenging ones mean.

Label Lower Left: TALK 2 Discus the following questions with your partner. What is in the 1 st Amendment? Do you have a Constitutional right to self- expression? Do your rights have limits? If so, where do they end? Whose rights are protected by Amendments 4-8? Why would that be written into the Bill of Rights?

Label Lower Right: Write Power Writing – Respond to the prompt below. Do not stop writing until the timer goes off. Which freedom or protection do you value the most? Why?
