2  Born on January 14 th, 1946 in Nottingham, England  Second of four children  His parents were working class  Parents were devoted Methodists  Shipman was very close to his mother, who died of lung cancer when he was 17 years old.  Shipman watched as his mother was injected by a doctor with morphine, which kept her from pain until her death.  Got married to Primrose May Oxtoby  Had four children  Studied at the Leeds School of Medicine  Graduated in 1970  In 1974, he took his first position as a general practitioner at the Abraham Ormerod Medical Centre in Todmorden, West Yorkshire  In 1975, he was found forging prescriptions of pethidine for his own use.  Sent to a drug rehabilitation clinic, and started being the general practitioner at the Donneybrook Medical Centre in Hyde  Founded his own surgery, which made him a respected member of the community

4  There was no evidence found of Shipman’s crimes until his final victim, Kathleen Grundy, was found dead. Shipman was the last person to see her alive, and in her will, she left £386,000 ($575,298.26) to Dr. Shipman. There was no mention of her child in her will. The police found this suspicious, and they carried out the investigation against Shipman. 9  Harold Shipman was very affected by his childhood. He grew up in a middle class family. He had very religious parents. However, the death of his mother is said to be the reason why he killed his patients. He saw his mother’s doctor inject her with morphine. The morphine kept away her pain until she passed away. This greatly affected Shipman psychologically. It is said that he carried the pain of his mother’s death. He carried it throughout his life. This pain was carried out into his work. His crimes are said to be deeply psychological. They sprouted all the way from his mother’s death when he was 17.
