3. Location: North Africa Germans attempting to overtake Suez Canal. Hitler attempted to control Middle Eastern Oil and attack Soviet Union from South. Defeated by British. Hitler doesn’t get to oil.

5. Located in Russia (European Theater) Germany attempting to overtake Soviet oil fields. Thousands of German soldiers died. This battle stopped German control in Eastern Europe.

7. Location: France (European Theater) American and Allied troops attack German controlled beaches of France. Hundreds of American casualties. Allied victory stopped German control of Western Europe.

9. Location: Midway Island (Pacific Theater) After Pearl Harbor attacks. Japan attempting to seize Island to get closer to United States. American victory started “Island Hopping” campaign to get closer to Japan.

11. Located: Islands of Japan (Pacific Theater) Victories for Americans here brought us closer to Japan. Thousands of casualties on both sides. Japanese soldiers and civilians committed suicide rather than surrender or become POW’s.
