2 WHAT IS THE SCOPE? Libraries are there for you throughout your learning journey, because they are in your local area and they are open and accessible to all. Library services in England have signed up to provide Free print and online resources for study and learning Study/learning spaces Information about free and low cost learning opportunities Opportunities for creativity for all ages Community place for self directed learning and sharing learning

3 WHAT ARE PUBLIC LIBRARIES PROVIDING? The Universal Learning Offer is a benchmark. Many libraries in the South West are already providing these facilities. Support for formal and self directed learning through print and online resources Public computers and Wi-Fi Digital skills sessions for public Space for classes and community groups Job Clubs, employment and money management support

4 AND Homework Club support Access to Research project. Over 90% of library services have signed up to provide the public with free access to millions of academic research articles Coding Clubs Tech Buddies and volunteers Exemplar facilities – Exeter’s Fab Lab

5 DIGITAL FOCUS – WHY? Address STEM (science, technology, engineering & maths) skills deficit Difficulty recruiting STEM skills for 40% of firms. Loss to UK economy £2billion Growth of self directed learning including MOOCS Shortage of extracurricular creative digital activities for young people and families

6 DIGITAL FOCUS – WHAT? Code Green – new online help guide for library practitioners to develop digital making offer for the public. Coding clubs, robotics workshops, music making, Raspberry Pi Jams and more…. Build on SCL’s Digital Skills Training programme - 14,000 library staff trained
