Remaining humble is part of the Confucian tradition so some Taiwanese will usually say this way. Even they think they are good-looking and smart. Westerners will tend to criticize someone directly if they really feel that way. Yes, you are!!!

We people in Taiwan are good at controlling our emotions in public and we won’t scream or yell in public when we feel angry. Westerners tend to complain quickly when things don’t go right. But this behavior is rude for Taiwanese!!!

We Taiwanese people will often begin a conversation with a person they first meet by asking questions which sounds very personal for westerners. It’s very normal and is considered to be very friendly in Taiwan. Are you married? How many children do you have? How much money do you make?

What kind of questions would you ask when you talk to a westerner at the first time??? What kind of sports do you like? What kind of movies do you like? Would you tell me about your home country?
