2. Listen up, Panthers. In Computer Basics, we will be learning everything you need to know to use a computer at school. Today, we will be learning How to turn the computer and the monitor on How to plug in headphones Other ports (places you can plug things in) on the computer

3. TURNING ON THE COMPUTER Every computer has a power button. On the computers in the computer lab, the power button is in the top right corner. When this button is lit, the computer is on, and there is no need to press is again. If it is not lit, you need to press the button once to turn on your computer.

4. TURNING ON THE COMPUTER If you want to be able to see what you’re doing, you will also need to turn on your monitor, or computer screen. Not all monitors look the same, but the power button is almost always in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just like before, if there is a light, the monitor is on, and there is no need to press the button again. No light? Press the monitor’s power button.

5. PLUGGING IN HEADPHONES Many computer programs that you will use play sounds. For these, you will need headphones. Headphones plug into the jack that has a small picture of headphones beside it. We are seeing it sideways, but if you tilt your head you will see the picture.

6. PLUGGING IN HEADPHONES You want to push the end of the headphone cable firmly into the headphone jack, but be careful not to push too hard, or you may damage the computer.

7. PLUGGING IN HEADPHONES When the headphones have been plugged in, a box will pop up on your screen. Click “headphones” so that the computer knows to play sounds through the headphones you just plugged in. Then click “OK” at the bottom right.
