O Lord, our God, arise, Scatter her enemies, And make them fall: Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On Thee our hopes we fix: God save us all. Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour; Long may she reign: May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice God save the Queen! 7 The British Government Elizabeth Alexandra Mary - the Queen of England from 1952 to the present. Came to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952 at the age of twenty- five years after the death of her father, King George VI.

8 Legislative branch of power The territory of the United Kingdom is divided into districts, roughly equal in population, each of which selects one MP in the House of Commons. the legislative power in great Britain belongs to the Parliament, but in the precise sense of the British Constitution, the Parliament of the triune institution: it includes the head of state (the monarch), the house of lords (historically — chamber of the nobility and higher clergy) and the house of Commons (historically — chamber of commoners). This concept is related to the fact that the law becomes such, if it passed the two houses (there are some exceptions to this rule in favor of the lower house) and signed by the monarch. In fact, under the Parliament refers to only two chambers, and in normal use is lower, which carries out legislative functions.

9 Executive branch of the power The Executive power belongs to the Government. The highest authority of the Government is the Cabinet appointed by the monarch. Head of the Cabinet is the Prime Minister who is chosen by the monarch taking into account the unwritten conventions (the candidate must be a member of the House of Commons and to have the support of the Communities, sufficient for the purpose). Then the Prime Minister selects the other Ministers which make up the Government and are political heads of Departments. About 20 most important Ministers make up the Cabinet. As in other systems of government, the Executive branch (actually called collectively "the government") is responsible to the Parliament: received from Parliament a vote of no confidence, the government will be forced either to resign, or try to dissolve Parliament and hold General elections. In practice, members of all major parties of Parliament are strictly monitored for compliance with their votes the policy of their parties. If the government has an overwhelming majority, it is unlikely that they will not be able to spend the bill through a vote.
