The C alorie Is a measure of heat that will be produced when the food we eat is burned in the mitochondria of your cells. It is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1.0 kilogram of water 1.0 degree celsius. It is a SI or metric Unit of measuring heat energy.

The c alorie Is a very small measure of heat the comes from the foods we consume. It is the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of only 1.0 gram of water 1.0 degree celsius. Notice it is lower case “ C ”.

The BE has a heat unit too! (English Units: we use) Btu or British Thermal Unit It is a measure of the heat produced from burning larger amounts of energy. It is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1.0 pound of water 1.0 degree Fahrenheit. Primarily used in industrial applications.
