Traffic Signals and Pavement Markings

a. Red is always stop. If it is flashing red, you may go as if a stop sign. A solid red you might be allowed to turn under certain circumstances. b. Green means you may go, if safe to do so. There is no right of way given by a green light. c. Yellow is used for caution, but it is a clearance light. You may clear an intersection if the light is yellow, but you are not allowed to enter an intersection once the light has changed to yellow. Traffic lights

RED LIGHT Always means STOP Stop behind the double thick white line

YELLOW LIGHT On a traffic signal does NOT mean: – Slow down – Hurry up and go before it turns red – caution

A Yellow light means: CLEAR THE INTERSECTION!!!! If you can stop safely it is expected that you do so. If you are too close to stop safely proceed through

GREEN LIGHT Proceed with caution Just because the law says that you have the right of way that does not ensure you a safe path Delaware is in the top 10 for red light running in the US

Protected Left Turn All cars in the left turn lane have the right of way All other cars should have a red light

FLASHING RED Flashing YELLOW

Flashing lights RED Treat as a stop sign YELLOW Caution

REMEMBER It is always a good idea to wait for a few seconds after your red light turns green before you go. Why is that?

Handicapped Blue pavement markings are used for handicapped parking.
