Early Literacy – Teacher Feedback Mendota Unified School District March 26, 2015
2
What do we want to know? What do our teachers need? How do we teach early literacy? Whole class vs. small group RTI Etc. We decided to have the teachers tell us what they needed help with. Who can provide the training for us? Outside agencies ACADEMIC COACHES!
3
One Simple Question “What training would you like for us to provide our academic coaches so they can better assist you in the classroom?” Discussion began with our Early Literacy Task Force Teacher reps decided they wanted to go back and get input from their all K-1 teachers Teachers discussed the question during their grade level PLC

Teacher Feedback The following suggestions were made by teachers: Differentiating small group instruction Create common core tasks with high rigor (specifically K-1) Move us from “busy work” centers to “rigorous” centers Reading strategies for small group instruction RTI lessons – activities/resources to get to higher DOK Model lessons and create lessons with us and not just give feedback

Next Steps Review teacher input with the early literacy task force all together Communicate with site administrators and coaches to look for learning opportunities in these areas Begin to address suggestions
