2. Why Do We Need Lab Safety?

3. Eye Safety Make sure to wear goggles
If you should happen to get something in your eyes…make sure to use the eyewash station

4. Thermal Safety Make sure to wear gloves
Burns are a definite possibility!!!!
Wear gloves, use hot mitts, and just use COMMON SENSE

5. Electricity Safety We will use electricity…respect it
Do not hang chords over tables or put in the way of areas where people can walk
Do not mix with WATER!!!

6. Chemical Safety Treat every chemical as a dangerous chemical
NEVER mix chemicals unless told to do so
DO NOT directly smell chemicals…waft them

7. Hand Safety Some objects may be sharp
Make sure to wear gloves around these objects
Use common sense!!!

8. Animal Safety Sometimes in the lab, you will work with animals or
biological materials
When you are finished, make sure to wash your hands fully every time

9. Glassware Safety Glass cools very slowly after being heated – DO NOT
HANDLE WITHOUT
protection
Never place hot glass on a wooden or metal desktop
NEVER eat or drink from laboratory glassware

In case of a spill, you don’t want to ruin your clothing, so it would be best to wear one of these…
