KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 4 ECO-SOCIAL CONDITIONS In this area, mainly ethnic minorities of Ba Na, E De, etc live with low density. Local life is poor, local inhabitants mainly earn their livings by husbandry and exploitation of forest products. Their life will be improved (by creating jobs, processing agricultural products, etc.) when the hydropower plant comes in. The area owns convenient access road to the site. Road No. 669 A passes through powerhouse area and is 200 m far from the powerhouse. Access road to the dams is sloped gently along the riverside and convenient for construction. The distance from powerhouse to the dams is 2.5 km

KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 12 DESIGN WORK PROGRESS Under Vietnamese standard, TCXD VN: 285 - 2002, based on the design parameters as FSL of 979 m, dam height of 9.52, and install capacity of 5.4 MW, the Krong Pa 2 hydropower project should be project at level III. Based on the previous studies on topographic and geological conditions at project site, two alternatives 1&2 are compared to select the best dam site. Alternatives of FSL will be either 978 m or 980 m, with daily regulation or non- regulation. Consideration for alternatives of install capacity and number of units.

KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 15 INTERCONNECTION Current situation of power system in K'Bang district At present, K’Bang is supplied electricity with 22kV network from feeder to K’Bang substation of 22 km length, AC-70 line. K’Bang substation owns three feeders of 22kV supplying electricity to the communes, including Dak Rong which supplied with electricity from feeder of 474 with the length of 40 km, AC-70 and AC-50 line. Currently, P max of entire district reaches 2600kW.
16
KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 16 INTERCONNECTION Power system development plan up to 2020 in K'Bang district Transformer of 110/35/22kV- 16MVA is planned to install in K’Bang. The transformer both supplies the district with electricity and transmits electricity from 13 MW-Ka Nak, 5.8 MW Krong Pa 2 hydropower stations to national power grid. It will meet the district’s power demand with electricity through 22 kV and 35 kV power network. At Plan on Power Development of Gia Lai province period 2004-2010 perspectives up to 2015 prepared by Institute of Energy, Pmax is forecasted to reach 3610kW by 2005 and 5700kW by 2010.
17
KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 17 INTERCONNECTION Interconnection plan for Krong Pa 2 project From Krong Pa 2 hydropower project, the line goes along the road No. 699, passing through the communes of Dak Rong, Son Lang, So Pai, Xa Dong and K’Bang village to 110kV K’Bang transformer The expecting line is about 55km, it will pass through the smoother area. Almost line is closed to the road, thus convenient for installation and operation.

KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 18 ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT Physical environment. construction of KrongPa 2 hydropower project will give inconsiderable impact on physical environment. Reservoir bed does not cover any industrial minerals Ecological environment Krong Pa 2 hydropower project does not give any bad impact on ecological environment and gives insignificant ones on biological diversification. As the small reservoir, the impacts on surrounding are inconsiderable Socio-economical situation Annually, Krong Pa 2 hydropower project will supply national power grid with its electricity of 24.48 x 10 6 kWh /year, making significant contribution to socio-economic development.
19
KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 19 CONSTRUCTION SHEDULE Krong Pa 2 hydropower project is planned to construct within 2.5 years, 6 months among them will be spent for preparation.
20
KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 20 TOTAL INVESTMENT CAPITAL Total investment cost (not including IDC) 100.58 billion VND of which: 1. Construction:52.72 bil. VND 2. Equipment: 31.10 bil. VND 3. Other cost: 7.62 bil. VND 4. Contingency: 9.14 bil. VND Total investment capital: 107.55 billions VND
21
KRONG PA 2 Hydropower Project, Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2005 21 CONCLUSION Based on calculations in the Fs it may be concluded that the proposed development of Krong Pa 2 Hydropower Project would be economically viable and friendly with environment.
