Reading the Credit Summary
Students can earn 8 credits per school year. If your student needs more than 8 credits to meet graduation requirements then credit recovery is NEEDED! Credits earned are denoted with a check mark. Credits in progress are circled or shaded.
14
Credit Summary Continued
*Compare the circled or shaded course requirements with the courses on the class schedule. * If a schedule adjustment/Credit Recovery class is needed, the student needs to see his/her counselor ASAP. * Through out the year, keep track of your requirements needed for graduation. *Students and parents should compare the transcript and student’s testing record with the credit summary in order to verify that the credit summary is correct. * Alert your counselor if you have any concerns! This is a team effort !

General Admissions Info
Send applications now You do not have to wait for ACT/SAT results Early decision does not help/guarantee admittance. The benefit is knowing if accepted or not by December. Colleges look at Rigor – GPA – ACT/SAT scores first. The essay, if required, is also VERY important. Leadership and extra-curricular involvement can sometimes make a difference, especially in the 2nd round. An athlete should apply to the college he/she is interested in athletically AND communicate with the college coach.
19
College Admissions Apply Now – don’t wait for ACT/SAT scores
ACT / SAT – code at least 4 colleges to receive scores Early Action = Yes or No or Deferred (maybe) Can be submitted through the Career Center!
20
College Admissions Testing
College Admissions Tests ACT (knowledge based) SAT (knowledge/logic/reasoning based) COMPASS (knowledge based) SAT II -Subject Test - Only a few schools require FREE SAT course – collegeboard.com, khanacademy.org ACT – no blanks (A= Answer All) SAT – don’t guess wildly (S= Skip what you don’t really know until March 2016) Official ACT & SAT scores must be sent directly to the college by ACT/SAT. The student must make the request.
21
College Admissions Testing
The ACT/SAT is required for all 4-yr colleges and universities BUT NOT for all 2-yr GA colleges. 2-yr colleges may use acceptable scores to exempt the student from the COMPASS test. The COMPASS test is for Technical Colleges and Placement for 2-year colleges. The ACT/SAT test should be taken after Algebra II.
23
See the Career Center Coordinator for more information.
Fee Waivers A fee waiver allows the student to waive the cost of the ACT/SAT exam and sometimes the college application fee. To receive the 2 SAT and 2 ACT fee waivers a student must receive free or reduced lunch. Students who qualify for the SAT fee waiver are also eligiblefor 4 college application fee waivers. Students who qualify for the ACT or SAT fee waiver are also eligible to use a fee waiver for the NCAA application. See the Career Center Coordinator for more information.

HOPE GPA When calculating HOPE GPA the GSFC will recalculate
Honors, PIB, AP and IB course grades qualify for point enhancement at DCHS. Honors and PIB courses add 3 points to the final grade. AP and IB courses add 5 points to the final grade. When calculating HOPE GPA the GSFC will recalculate subtract the added points and convert the grade to the 4.0 scale. GSFC adds .5 to the unweighted GPA score for only the AP and IB courses to a maximum of 4.0.
26
HOPE GPA Scale 100 – 90 = A = 4.0 89 – 80 = B = 3.0 79 – 71 = C = 2.0
