AMENDS (UH-MENDZ) Restitution for a wrong; something done to makeup for an insult or injury. I hope to make amends early in the new year.

ANIMATED (AN-UH-MEY-TID) Lively; vigorous; full of life. The latest computer animated adventure from Pixar Studios is a great movie for all ages.

ALLEGED Claimed without proof; presumed; declared or stated as described. The young girl alleged that her friend had taken her diary.

AMITY (AM-I-TEE) Peace; friendship. Some countries have amity between other nations around the world.

ANNALS (AN-LZ) Historical records. Throughout the annals of history, there has never been a presidential election as intriguing as the one occurring in 2008.

AGITATION (AJ-I-TEY-SHUHN) Violent moving or shaking, emotional disturbance. She was rubbing her hands in agitation.

ALTERATION (AWL-TUH-REY SHUHN) The process of changing, adjusting or modifying. The bride-to-be had to get alterations on her dress a week before the wedding.

ALOOF (UH-LOOF) Indifferent; distant physically or emotionally; reserved and remote. Some people think I am aloof, but I am actually very shy.

AGILITY (UH-JIL-I-TEE) The ability to move quickly. The sprinter won the gold medal because of his speed and agility.

ALLUSION (UH-LOO-ZHUHN) A figure of speech that makes a reference to places, people, events, or myths, either directly or indirectly. The speaker made an allusion to the speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr.
