Connection with the labour market, On the national level through the Foundation of Vocational Education and Labour market (SBB), where employers and education are equally represented SBB advises the Minister Through sector based centres of expertise, which is the bridge between education and the world of trade & industry (facing strong reforms to become transformed in (fewer) SBB-Chambers) Through workplacement periods for all students and by taking the regional demands into account

Qualification Structure since 1997 (1) Courses divided in 4 levels (3+1) 2 learning pathways leading to the same qualification with possibility of changeovers: 1.School based (BOL); students, 340.000 enrolments 2.Work based (BBL); employees,175.000 enrolments (apprenticeship system)

Qualification structure (2) Choice of pathways is influenced through the economic situation (kind of communicating vessels) Qualification structure is based on competences, learning outcomes and labour market demands. Triple Qualification; labour market, follow up study and citizenship New initiative: Focus on craftmanship or professional skills
