Tracking Tool Proposal - TrackIt Provide faculty with an easy-to-manage method of tracking low-stakes, high quantity activities Class participation Attendance Daily Micro-assessments
4
Tracking Tool Proposal - TrackIt Optional Tool available in Site Setup Once enabled, display in navigation menu Multiple TrackIt items possible Option to make an item visible to students Option to add item to gradebook Behave in a similar way to the Assignment Tool
5
What the tool might look like
6
Use Case: Participation Instructor wants to enter participation points for each week of class. Students can get 0-3 points each week for participation. Columns are always numbered to easily view large tracking tables. Only the Sum (Summary) column is posted to the gradebook for overall participation.
7
Use Case: Tracking Attendance Instructor Miller's class meets three times a week and wishes to track attendance of the students. Using the gradebook, the instructor will have to create 48 Gradebook items (16 weeks X 3 times/wk)
8
Use Case: Weekly Assignments Professor Kauffman has 30 Pass/Fail competency activities for his Nursing classes. Students perform the activities at various time throughout the semester and the instructor wishes to easily track who has and has not completed the activities as well as who has passed and who has failed.
9
Use Case: Assessment The College of Arts and Sciences wishes to collect assurance of learning data for their assessment needs. This information is not part of the course grade and should be kept separate from the gradebook. Data collected will be given marks like Meets, Exceeds and Unsatisfactory.
10
Extended Use Case: Easily Generated Notifications Professor Klein would like to generate a notification message to be sent to students who fall below a defined threshold for a given TrackIt item.
11
Extended Use Case: Levels of Use of Other Tools Dr. Reminder wants to automatically track that students are posting the required number of discussion forum postings each week. A TrackIt item, linked to the Forums tool, would reflect the frequency of each students postings for each week. A separate TrackIt item could be used for tracking read items as well.
12
Session Activity: Critique, Enhance, Extend In small groups, discuss and refine the notion of a new TrackIt tool. Please document your suggestions, requirements, designs, etc. with the provided paper and markers. We'll ask groups to share their findings.
