Amelia Matney CS 133.7

Major: psychology Minor: sociology I need this education so I can go on and receive my master’s and begin my career.

U.S. National Soccer Teams My subject is the United States Women’s and Men’s national soccer team, and some of the world’s greatest players I think it should be interesting because soccer is the world sport, and its champions have to beat other countries to earn the bragging rights, unlike other sports in America

Its going, going, GONE! I’m a huge soccer fan, and have been since I started playing 14 or 15 years ago, so this was a natural choice. There wasn’t much for me to research since I have been following these teams for awhile now, but I did search the net for parts of a player’s bio

2003 U.S. Women’s World Cup Team This is the 2003 World Cup team. Before the Cup, they were ranked number one in the world, but a semi-final loss to Germany knocked them out, and put them in third place (thanks to a win over the underdog team, Canada).

The Queens of Soccer The American Women were dropped from the top spot in the world to number three, due to the loss of the number two team Germany. Pictured to the right are Kristine Lily, Brandi Chastain, and Mia Hamm after the third place match.

The World’s Greatest Female Player: Michelle Akers Position: Forward/Central Midfielder Height : 5’10 153 international caps Retired prior to the 2000 Sydney Olympics, due to injuries, and her ongoing battle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. http://www.womensoccer.com/biogs/aker s.html

Mia Hamm Position: Forward Height: 5’5 Hometown: Chapel Hill, NC Mia is the most recognizable women’s player today. She has become the American icon for the sport.

She Scores! Position: Midfielder Height: 5’4 Hometown: Wilton, CN In 2001, Lilly became the first soccer player-male or female- to rack up more than 200 international appearances. http://www.kristinelilly13.co m

Brandi Chastain Position: Defender Height: 5’7 Hometown: San Jose, CA In the ’99 World Cup, Chastain buried the ball past the Chinese keeper in overtime to win USA the title.

Tiffany Milbret Postion: Forward Height 5’3 Hometown: Portland, OR Milbrett came in a sub in the third place match in the Cup to find the back of net against Canada.

Brianna Scurry Position: Goalkeeper Height: 5’8 Hometown: Dayton, MN Scurry is a scary sight for any forward on a breakway. She is one of the reason the women won the ’99 cup. Scurry made a crucial save in the penalty kick overtime

Shannon MacMillan Postion: Midfielder Height: 5’5 Hometown: Escondido, CA Led the U.S. in the ’96 Olympics with 3 goals in five matches
