The Icelandic Volcano By Sean Frost

Where did it happen? Eyjafjallajökull is in the South of Iceland. It was underneath a glacier and it then erupted and created a huge ash cloud.

When did it happen? The volcano erupted on the 21 March 2010 It erupted just after midnight.

What was it like? It affected most of Europe and some parts of northern Canada with a giant ash cloud. This grounded Aeroplanes for 3 days.

What Caused it? The volcano erupted because the plates under the volcano’s surface rubbed together and made the bottom of the volcano very thin so it was easy for the magma to break and erupt.

What affect did it have on the environment It caused a lot of pollution It created a huge ash cloud that lasted for 3 days over Europe. It caused chaos as many flights were cancelled because they were unable to fly in the ash cloud because of previous aeroplanes that had ash in their engines and caused them to fail.

What affect did it have on the people? The volcano had a big affect on the people. People in Europe, Northern Canada, and eastern Iceland. It affected lots of business people, airlines trying to operate flights and it also affected people trying to go on holiday.

In the first few days People were stuck in different countries unable to travel by aeroplane all around Europe. It affected millions of people who normally travel to the other countries. They had few options to get to there destinations.

In the long term After the giant ash cloud had gone it started to die down. It erupted once more in the summer. There are no problems at the moment to be solved from it. Hopefully we will know when this volcano will erupt next time
