Some stories will switch the point of view Point of view is the voice in which the story is told. Point of view First person Third person Limited Omniscient

Why use alternating point of view?
Provides the reader with different sides of the story/conflict Boy/girl voice – to describe their first meeting Teacher/student voice – to tell about the first day of school Husband/wife/child – to describe the effects of divorce on their family

Alternating First Person Point of View
Told by more than one narrator with a distinct voice Look for pronouns like: I, me, my, mine, our The switch will most likely occur in new chapters The chapter may be titled or labeled with the narrator’s name Can explain the same event or different points of the story

Alternating Third Person Limited POV
Told by same narrator ---BUT--- The reader only sees one character’s view point at a time in a chapter through the third person limited POV. Look for words like: he, she, their, them
