From 1607-mid 1700’s settlers arriving in the new world had a great amount of autonomy (independence) By the mid 1700’s colonist, particularly land-owning males benefitted immensely from being within the colonies, saw themselves as British

1756 – 1763, Britain was engaged in a global conflict with French over territorial interests (North America, India, and Latin America) After the British victory, new territories were available for colonists west of the 13 colonies

With this declaration, war with the British was declared, U.S was led by local militia leader George Washington With considerable aid from the French, and other European power, the colonists were victorious 1781 = Britain surrendered to the Americans in Yorktown, Virginia
