SKID STEERS Pre-operation checklist Maintenance Safe operation Entering and exiting safely

PRE-OPERATION CHECKLIST – SKID STEER Back to skid steers

MAINTENANCE – SKID STEER Before servicing: Set the parking brake. Lower the bucket or attachment completely on the ground. Shut off the engine. Remove the key. If the service requires the bucket to be raised, engage the lift arm supports. Follow the manufacture’s recommendations to safely complete the task.

MAINTENANCE – SKID STEER (cont.) Check oil level and hydraulic fluid levels before and after each use. Check engine air filter system for damage or leaks. Check engine coolant system for damage or leaks. Check ROPS (roll over protective structure) and FOPS (falling object protective structure) for dents or cracks. Inspect the seat belt and seat bar to ensure they are working properly. Check the owners manual and follow directions on proper lubrication. Check tires for wear, damage and pressure. Back to skid steers

SAFE OPERATION – SKID STEER OSHA requires employees to READ AND UNDERSTAND THE OWNERS MANUAL before using this machinery. Familiarize yourself with warning devices, guages and controls. Always operate the skid steer from inside the operator’s compartment. DO NOT operate from the outside. Stay seated while using the skid steer loader controls. Only operate with the seat belt fastened and safety bar in place. Keep arms, legs and head inside while operating.

SAFE OPERATION – SKID STEER (cont.) Try to plan to load, unload and turn only on level ground. Check for obstacles such as drop-offs or soft soil spots. Check for overhead hazards such as power lines. Riders should NEVER be permitted. Adjust speed to suit working conditions and terrain. Never use the loader as a work platform.

SAFE OPERATION – SKID STEER (cont.) Travel and turn with the bucket low to the ground. Never exceed the load capacity. Travel straight up or down with the heavy end pointed uphill. Do not travel sideways on slopes. Face in the direction of travel. Keep bystanders away. DO NOT modify or bypass safety devices. Back to skid steers

ENTERING AND EXITING SAFELY – SKID STEER Enter the loader when the bucket or attachment is on the ground, or when lift-arm supports or in place. Face the seat when entering and maintain three points of contact. Do not use foot or hand controls to step or hold while entering or exiting. Before exiting lower the bucket or attachment to the ground, set the parking brake and shut off the engine. If you cannot exit through the front, use the emergency exit through the top of the loader or across the back.
