JAPAN proposal on EVAP-GTR to add reference fuel Justification Japan has proposed to allow the usage of Japanese reference fuel for EVAP-GTR. At the last EPPR IWG meeting, Japan reported (EPPR-07-20e) that there is no difference for the test results between EU fuel (E5) and JPN fuel (E0, E10). (For detail, see the following pages) Proposal To add Japanese reference fuel on EVAP-GTR. The test fuel to be used shall be the reference fuel set out in Annex B.6.2 to Revision 1 of GTR No. 2. Amendment proposalCurrent GTR draft The test fuel to be used shall be the reference fuel set out in Annex ** Annex** Reference fuel: EU or Japanese reference fuel 2

Test Results of Evaporative Emissions - Effect of fuel type on evaporative emission of each vehicles - Vehicle A Vehicle B Vehicle C Vehicle D Test limit Evaporative emissions of all vehicles are quite lower than test limit (2,000 mg/test), because all vehicle are equipped with carbon canister. Fuel types do not affect evaporative emissions. Correlation with vehicle types (displacement, fuel tank capacity and carbon canister size, etc.) are not clearly observed. Excerpted from EPPR-07-18 3

Test Results of Evaporative Emissions - Correlations between RVP and evaporative emissions - Correlations between RVP and evaporative emissions are not shown for all vehicles. This means that differences of RVP between Euro E5, Japan E0, Japan E10 fuels do not affect the evaporative emissions. Related Japanese Proposals regarding reference fuel on EPPR works other than Evapo. gtr 【 Justification 】 Under OBD-GTR draft, there is no provision for emission threshold. Therefore the type of reference fuel does not affect the test result. 【 Proposal 】 The description of reference fuel shall be deleted, as already proposed in the document EPPR-06-21. 【 Justification 】 It is allowed to use Japanese test fuel for current WMTC because the equivalence of Japanese fuel and GTR reference fuel (equivalent to EU3 fuel) is recognized. New draft amendment of GTR No.2 proposed by EC does not change the WMTC mode. 【 Proposal 】 Japanese reference fuel should be kept in the future-amended GTR No.2. 5
