The Russell Group isn’t the only university group out there University Alliance is a group of 'business engaged' universities, while Million + is a public policy think tank made up of universities. Some universities choose not to be part of any group – and this shouldn’t be viewed negatively.

At a Russell Group university, you will benefit from world-class teachers, first- rate facilities and a highly-motivated and talented peer group. The value of studying at a Russell Group university is highlighted by the: High levels of student satisfaction – the 2015 National Student Survey showed 88% of students at Russell Group universities were satisfied with their course, while 89% of students were satisfied with teaching at our universities Greater graduate earnings – graduates of Russell Group universities earn around 10% more on average over the course of their lifetime than graduates of newer universities Stiff competition for places – an average of six applications are made for each place Low drop-out rates – Russell Group universities have some of the lowest drop-out rates in the world.

Entry requirements Each Russell Group university sets its own entry requirements for each of its courses. Some advanced level subjects are more frequently required for entry to degree courses than others. These subjects are called ‘facilitating’ because choosing them at advanced level leaves open a wide range of options for university study. These facilitating subjects are: Biology English Literature History Modern Languages and Classical Languages Chemistry Geography Physics Maths and Further Maths
