3.5 Derivatives of Trigonometric Functions Objective: SWBAT use the rules for differentiating the six basic trigonometric functions

Why? Trigonometric functions are important because so many of the phenomena we want information about are periodic. For example, heart rhythms, earthquakes, tides, and weather. Continuous period functions can be expressed in terms of sines and cosines, so the derivatives of sines and cosines play a key role in describing periodic change.

Jerk Jerk (a sudden change in acceleration) is the derivative of acceleration. If a body’s position at time t is s(t), the body’s jerk at time t is When riding in a car that is jerky, it isn’t the accelerations are large, but that the changes in acceleration are abrupt. Jerk is what spills your drink.
