2 Japanese advances were Hong Kong, French Indochina, Malaya, Burma, Thailand, and half of China. They also swept south and east across the Pacific, conquering Formosa, the Dutch Indies, Guam, Wake, the Solomon Islands, and countless other dots in the ocean, including two islands in the Aleutian chain that were part of Alaska. General Douglas MacArthur will lead the American assault on Japanese forces in April 1942, however this is just after he had been chased out of the Philippines months before vowing “I shall return.”

3 The United States will use a battle plan of island hopping in which they would attack one island at a time starting with the furthest islands from Japan and moving closer as they took over the islands. This system and this war is all being carried out while America is also at war with Germany in Europe. It does prove very costly however, as American casualties are high with this method of attack. The reason because of this is how they have to attack each beach very similar to how they attacked the beaches of France during the D-Day invasion. It is effective however, and the United States is able to move towards mainland Japan.

9 FACTS OF DESTRUCTION The thermal radiation consisting of ultraviolet rays, infra-red and light rays follows a nuclear explosion which creates a tremendous amount of heat, comparable to the interior of the sun in a volume of space a few inches in diameter. Because the reaction is completed in microseconds a violent explosion results. Near the hypocenter the temperature of 6,000 degrees centigrade incinerates the body, blisters tile surfaces and instantly ignites flammable objects. At distances of about three kilometers the skin is charred, but at distances closer to the hypocenter, internal tissues are injured as if they are roasted and death occurs immediately. As thermal radiation and the penetrating nuclear radiation of gamma rays and neutrons act upon the body simultaneously, the combined effects were lethal for those out in the open within 1,500 meters of the hypocenter, even for those who were not injured by the trauma.
