Origins It was written by the American classical music composer and teacher Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941 It was originally titled “Carol of the Drum” and was based on a traditional Czech carol. It was recorded multiple times by different artists until Harry Simeone released it under the name “The Little Drummer Boy”

Religious Significance The lyrics are about a young boy who was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity. The boy had no gift for Jesus, so he played a song for Him with his drum The lyrics that mention it are “I played my best for him” and “He smiled at me”

Relation to Church History It is connected to Church History by the Nativity story The Nativity is a big part of Church History because it is the birth of Jesus The Magi are also a part of the Nativity story They called the Little Drummer Boy to Jesus as the Church does
