Description Music therapists use music to treat patients with physical, emotional, and mental disabilities. Music therapists develop behavioral goals in patients, such as self confidence, security, longer attention spans, improved coordination, and relief from depression.

Responsibilities Planning musical activities for the patients Playing music for the patients to get the physically active Working with disabled patients Choosing the appropriate treatment for the patients, and evaluating their progress Using rhythmic exercises with the patients

Earnings In 2012, the annual earnings of Music therapists were $41,755. the lowest ten percent earned $26,188, and the highest ten percent earned $66,430 They receive paid vacations, sick days, holidays, life and health insurance

Job Availability In 2006, 2,740 people were employed with this occupation in New York. In 2016, the number of workers is supposed to decrease by 4%, to only 2,620 workers.

Travel Music therapists work from schools, to nursing homes, to hospitals. They travel frequently to help patients who are elderly or drug and alcohol abusers.
