18 Typically, companies do not believe employees are entitled to better wages and conditions. It is not their policy to share profits with employees. They usually resort to scare tactics such as threatening to close, relocating, downsizing, outsourcing work, layoffs, etc. These tactics are used to scare employees from forming a Union and having a voice. IF OUR EMPLOYEES VOTE FOR A UNION

19 Union THE BOSS WANTS TO TAKE THE “YOU” OUT OF THE UNION. THEY WANT YOU TO THINK OF THE UNION AS AN OUTSIDE FORCE. THEY WANT YOU TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THE UNION OR THEM. THEY WANT YOU TO THINK ONLY OF THEIR INTEREST AND NOT YOUR OWN INTEREST. YOU HAVE INTEREST TOO, EQUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE. YOU SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION. STOP BEING PART OF A ”DO - IT - YOURSELF” OR MERIT SYSTEM. “YOU” AND YOUR FELLOW WORKERS HAVE A CHOICE FOR A BETTER FUTURE, WHEN YOU FORM A UNION.

22 THE COMPANY WANTS TO GO INTO EXTRA INNINGS USING UNDERHANDED TACTICS Whenever workers start to organize themselves into a union, there is one thing they nearly always experience --- DELAY! It doesn't take much thought to come up with the answers to the questions of "why” and "who" wants the delay. Everyone knows that the government NLRB election procedure takes time. Now, let's see who wants to delay and why. Certainly it isn't your union. You have already signed cards that show the government you want the election and you want it now! The boss doesn't feel that way. Let's say that when your union is voted in, you negotiate better wages and other benefits. Multiply this increase times the number of workers and you can see how much the company saves each week it delays the election. Isn’t it strange, that the company spends the money you’re entitled to on an expensive Attorney, while they say you don’t need an outside Union to represent you? Yet, the company brings in an outside Attorney to tell them how to interfere with your rights and with your money!! And there's another reason. Companies think that delays help to discourage you. It gives them time to whittle away at you and change a few votes, so it will weaken your union's chances in the election. Just remember these facts. If the time seems to drag on, the company is trying to protect its pocketbook and weaken you. Your best defense is to be more determined than ever to win the election and take the wages and benefits guaranteed in your contract!

YOU DIDN’T OBJECT WHEN THE COMPANY JOINED AN ORGANIZATION. YOU DIDN’T SAY, “YOU’RE LETTING AN OUTSIDE GROUP COME BETWEEN US.” ACTUALLY, JOINING ANY ORGANIZATION IS THE OWNERS BUSINESS AND NOT YOURS. LIKEWISE, JOINING A UNION IS YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES BUSINESS, NOT THE OWNERS BUSINESS. YOU DON’T TELL THE OWNER HOW TO RUN THEIR BUSINESS THE OWNER SHOULD NOT TELL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HOW TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS!!!

25 A UNION IS NOT FORMED TO FIGHT THE EMPLOYER. YOUR UNION IS ORGANIZED TO MAKE THINGS BETTER AND MORE FAIR FOR EVERYONE. YOUR OWNER IS BUSY. IT TAKES TIME TO RUN A BUSINESS. THE COMPANY HAS TO BE EFFICIENT AND PROFITABLE. THERE ARE MANY DETAILS IN RUNNING A BUSINESS. A COMPANY DOESN’T ALWAYS HAVE THE TIME TO ADDRESS PROBLEMS WITH INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEES. WITH A UNION, THERE IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT. IT COVERS WAGES, HOURS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT. EVERYONE IS TREATED EQUALLY AND PROVIDES A METHOD OF SETTLING COMPLAINTS. A UNION CONTRACT IS GOOD BUSINESS Nobody’s Mad At Anybody !
