BTEC Higher National Certificate Technical Units tmc
2
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc During your HNC course you will be undertaking 5 technical units. These consist of the following: Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems. Advanced Vehicle Technology. Fault Diagnosis and Repair. Vehicle Microprocessor Systems. Computer Applications in the Motor Industry.
3
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc The units are broken down into a series of Outcomes. To pass and achieve accreditation for each unit these outcomes must be covered. These outcomes can be proven by a series of ways: Assignments. Assessments - tests, both practical and theoretical. Possible evidence from the workplace. It is therefore vital that ALL assignments are completed within the specified time frame and all assessment tests sat.
4
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems. This unit can be summarised as these outcomes. To achieve the unit the student must: investigate vehicle electrical and electronic circuits - use of Ohms law, semi-conductors, symbols, diagrams and testing. analyse operation of sensors, actuators and displays - display devices testing of all the above. explain the principles of electromagnetic interference and operation of suppression devices.
5
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc Advanced Vehicle Technology. This unit can be summarised as these outcomes. To achieve the unit the student must: investigate electronic power steering systems, active suspension and ride control systems. investigate ABS, traction control systems and DSC / CBC. investigate central body systems including advanced central locking, security systems and vehicle environmental control. carry out diagnostic procedures on the above systems.
6
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc Fault Diagnosis and Repair. This unit can be summarised as these outcomes. To achieve the unit the student must: select suitable criteria for fault diagnosis, interpreting symptoms and repair recommendations. apply principles of measurement and testing to determine the performance of a vehicle system. evaluate and present test results and produce fault location guides for a given vehicle system.
7
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc Vehicle Microprocessor Systems. This unit can be summarised as these outcomes. To achieve the unit the student must: investigate microprocessor architecture and operation. investigate microprocessor interfacing. analyse communication between vehicle microprocessors. carry out diagnostic tests on vehicle microprocessor systems.
8
BTEC Higher National Certificate tmc Computer Applications in the Motor Industry. This unit can be summarised as these outcomes. To achieve the unit the student must: investigate technical or management problems. investigate solutions with the aid of computers. present and report findings using computers.
