1. Mrs. Nikkia’s News Students and Families, I cant believe it is already November! We have so much to be thankful for in Rm 173. Thank you all so much for you help with our Halloween party and for working hard at home to help our little scholars be successful. This month in Room 173 Reading: This month we will focus on the authors purpose, nouns, verbs, and correct tenses. Spelling: This month we will focus on words with “silent e” (example: like, take, home). We will also begin using “Words Their Way” to work on spelling and phonics (more information attached). Fluency: Keep working on fluency! The more we practice, the better we read! By the end of the year, students should be reading approximately 60 words per minute on their cold reads. Each time students meet three fluency goals, they will receive a BookIt coupon for free pizza! Math: We will begin working on addition strategies. (See work packets that are sent home). n Nov 3 rd Election Day- No School Nov 19 th Family Literacy Night @5:00 Nov 25-27No School- Thanksgiving Dec 1 st -Highland Leadership Holi-Day Dec 5 th - Deck the Halls Dec 11 th -Parent Night Out Dec 18 th Holiday Parties Fluency checks each Thursday and spelling tests on Fridays.
