Additional Information Grading System Tests/Projects: 40% Quizzes: 25 % Classwork: 25% Homework: 10% Studying Students are encouraged each night to look over their worksheets/notes for 10 minutes. Although it may not be written in their agendas, each student is required to study nightly to ensure their success. Homework When students have homework, they will get full credit if they complete it, and I will stamp it. We will go over it, and if a student had not completed it, they may fill it in while we go over it for partial credit. Reading: Novels, short stories, poems, essays, and articles will be read Equal emphasis on both fiction and non-fiction Review and analyze effect of Literary Elements (character, setting, plot, theme) Analyze the main idea of a passage is and its significance to the comprehension of the passage. Generate questions, make inferences, draw conclusions, Writing: Students will study and write narratives, arguments, and informative/explanatory texts throughout the year. Students will study and utilize the writing process. Students will also conduct short and extended research projects. Vocabulary: Emphasis on word studies. Analyze and study the meaning of root words, prefixes, and suffixes, and apply these skills when determining meanings of words. Understanding context clues while reading Continue development of and expansion of working vocabulary. Speaking, Listening, and Language Skills will also be emphasized! Language Arts

Will be collected every 2 weeks for a classwork grade. School Wide Discipline Policy 4 lunch detentions in 1 quarter=ASD 2 ASD’s in 1 quarter=office referral This starts fresh each quarter. ASD’s will be held on an assigned day from 3:15-4:00.

Field Trip Information Costs: UNC/Planetarium: No more than $15; End of Year: Defy Gravity: No more than $20 Chaperoning: Students will only be able to ride with students in their homerooms. Lunches: Students will pre-pay for lunch for UNC/Planetarium field trip but will need to bring money to end of year field trip to purchase lunch. Meeting Point: We will meet at UNC/Planetarium and end of year celebration destination. If your child is carpooling with another family, they will meet at school.
