18. How to work a Dichotomous Key Step 1: Select the organism (Hint: look at this organism the entire time you are answering questions/ statements). Step 2: ALWAYS start at the first set of questions/ statements (1a and 1b). Step 3: Once you answer the questions/ statements, follow the directions to the next set of questions/ statements. Step 4: Continue answering statements until you reach a name. This is the scientific name. It should be a 2 part name: Genus species. Step 5: Select the next organism and repeat steps 2-4.
