The services we check We check services run by: The NHS Local councils Private companies Voluntary organisations

Essential standards Standards are the things that all Heath and social care services must work towards. There are 16 essential standards If the service meets the standards they should be giving people good care and support.

Where we get information New information can come from a variety of sources: Other regulatory bodies and inspections Other bodies e.g. Ombudsman, commissioners Providers Staff and other professionals CQC Assessors and Inspectors Quality and Risk Profile (QRP) People who use services, families and carers

Types of Inspection Scheduled –Planned by the inspector –Take place at least every year Responsive –Carried out in response to specific information that raises concerns about compliance –Is targeted to the area of concern Themed –Based on particular topics –Looks at a cross-section of services Investigations –A more intensive look at a service where there are serious concerns All findings will be published

Inspection Report This is completed after an inspection. It will have information about which outcomes were checked. It will have a short summary of what was found. It will say id the service is compliant or not compliant. The report is then published on our website, but not before the provider has checked it for factual accuracy. REPORT

Regulatory Action There are lots of things we can do if the service does not meet these standards Non –statutory actions Statutory Actions.
