2. Causes  Cause is unknown  Could be caused by genetic or environmental factors  How they were raised is a huge factor  Environmental factors include abandonment in childhood, disrupted family life, abuse, little family connection

3. Prevalance  One of the most common personality disorders  Becoming more common  About 2% of the population have this disorder  30-60% of people with a personality disorder have BPD

4. Most at risk  Women more often have this disorder  75% of those diagnosed are women  Often occurs in psychiatric patients

5. Signs and Symptoms  Extreme fear of being abandoned  Don’t like being alone  Feeling empty and bored  Frequent outbursts of anger  Impulsiveness  Self-injury  Change therapists and friends often

6. Prevention and Treatment  Group Therapy, but usually the patient gets mad and leaves  Individual Talk  Medications may help in some cases
