Definition: A form of a verb that is used as a noun, adjective, or adverb. A verbal is NOT the verb for the subject. If the verbal acts as a noun, it may be the subject. For Example: 1. She soaked her tired feet in the cool water. 2. Swimming is a lot of fun. 3. Alex contemplates ways to improve his writing.

Definition: A verbal in the infinitive form that acts as a noun, an adjective, or an adverb. Infinitive Form: to + base form of the verb Examples: to runto walkto swimto ski to loveto thinkto eatto hope

Definition: A verbal in the gerund form that acts as a noun. Gerund Form: base form of the verb + ing Examples: runningswimmingskiingtalking jumpingwritingbelievingtyping

PARTICIPLES

Definition: A verbal in either the past participle or present participle form that acts as an adjective. Participle Form: 1. Past Participle: base form of the verb + -ed/-en (reg) 2. Present Participle: base form of the verb + -ing Examples: Past Participles: walked, eaten, gone Present Participles: walking, eating, going
