When a master schedule is proposed, the first problem is to convert it efficiently into the requirements for purchased and manufactured parts. This is referred to performing a parts explosion T o present a formal description of the problem, lets divide item produced into three categories, end items, subassemblies and parts. Let bill of material for an end product is defined by row vector B i B i =(b i1, b i2,…… b ij) Where b ij is the number of items j required to make directly 1 unit of item i. This is the representation of number of parts in one unit This is the representation of total quantity of parts
