Hello! MY NAME IS BENEDEK CSILLA. I am going to present you the Student Union (SU) of the Banyai Janos Technical College. BE YOUTH! Europe for Citizens

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL Our school with its 600 students is one of the biggest technical- vocational high schools in. Harghita county. Students can chose from the following professions: textile, hairdressing, electronics, technological informatics, sports, mechanics, carpentry and construction. Equipment o 3 IT labs, o 80 computers, o Boarding school with 120 beds, o A modern canteen, a sports hall, o School museum, o Library with 33000 books, and a o reading room. TAUGHT FOREIGN LANGUAGES o English, German. MAIN WINNING PROJECTS o PHARE TVET/2004, workshop and school equipment, o Youth program with more European schools, o With Erasmus scholarship my fellow students made their internship in Portugal and Poland. WHAT DOES THE STUDENT UNION DO? Since it functions at the students’ service its aims and activities are determined by the students’ claims. The SU formulates aims which will be achieved through different activities and processes. BE YOUTH! Europe for Citizens

IT’S TASK To defend and enforce the students’ interests(to reveal problems, represent the students, take part in disciplinary procedures and in the formation of the school rules). IT’S TASK To organize different school programs. These can be: sports competitions, gala performances, afternoon activities, students’ day. IT’S TASK To organize activities during the ‘scoala altfel’ (school in a different way) week. Right to decide Asking for the opinion of the teaching staff the SU can decide on the followings: its own function, the election of its officials, how to spend its financial resources, the activities during the week when there is no teaching. Right of veto Without its agreement a decision can’t be made on the followings: rules concerning the students, school rules. Right to express opinion Its opinion has to be required in every question that refers to a bigger student community. WHAT DOES THE STUDENT UNION DO? BE YOUTH! Europe for Citizens

Right to discussions The US representative can take part in discussions and can say its opinion (ex. Teaching staff meetings). Right to propose The US can put forward a proposal for each question that refers to the students. The headmaster has to respond in 30 days but the proposal doesn’t necessarily will have any consequences. As you can see the SU has important right to every questions concerning the students. The purpose of this is the effective enforcement of the students’ interests. The SU which can use efficiently these rights becomes a successful organization. BE YOUTH! Europe for Citizens

HOW DOES THE STUDENT UNION WORK? About questions concerning its function the SU decides on its own. It has its own rules written in its Rules and Regulations. BE YOUTH! Europe for Citizens

o The SU’s aims, activities, o The members’ rights and obligations, o The structure of the organization (members and functions), o The process of the election and recalling the members, o Rules regarding the convocation of the SU meetings, o Rules concerning the working groups and the students who have responsibilities, o Rules concerning the meetings (who, when, where organizes, convokes it), o Management, administration of funds, o Final disposals, formal requirements: acceptance, day of approval, dispositions concerning the public. There is no exact rule of what a SU should do. Important is to take into consideration the students’ claims and interests and to use their rights.
