Question An employee of a delivery company drives 480 miles at 60 miles per hour in a vehicle that averages 20 miles per gallon of gas. The employee is paid $12 per hour, gasoline cost $3 per gallon, and maintenance on the vehicle is $0.15 per mile. According to these rates, what is the total cost of this trip for the company?
3
Step 1 480 / 60 = 8 hours To get how many hours he’s driving, for further steps.
4
Step 2 480 / 20 = 24 To find the gallons of gas he used for the trip.
5
Step 3 So for his Salary I did 8 hours x $12.00 = $96.00 I did this because I needed to find out how much he as getting paid for this trip, and he was getting paid by the hour.
6
Step 4 For Gas – I did the 24 gallons of gas (480 / 20 in Step 2) that was used and multiplied it by $3.00 To find out how much gas cost 24 x $3.00 = $72.00
7
Step 5 Maintenance - $0.15 x (total miles driven) 480 to get $72.00 I did this because I needed to know how much maintenance was going to cost, and the problem said that maintenance is $0.15 per mile so I multiply it to get my answer.
8
Step 6 For my last step I totaled my cost: $96.00 (Salary) + $72.00 (Gas) + $72.00 (Maintenance) = $240.00

Answer My Answer is: According to these rates, the total cost of this trip for the company is:
