Week of February 14, 2011 Getting Organized!

Last week our goal was to decide on a topic for our research papers. (trait 1: ideas) Last week we also conducted research on our topic. This week our goal is to write & organize our first draft. (trait 2: organization) BIG IDEA: When you write, you have to ORGANIZE your writing.

Depending our your topic, we’ll use either of these strategies: Chronological Or Logical

1. How might you sort your cards? What labels could we give to the groups? Turn and Talk 2. What labels could we give to the groups? What is our MAIN IDEA?

1. Choose which strategy you will use to organize your writing. 2. Sort your research cards into three-to- five groups 3. Label each group stating what they have in common – what is the MAIN IDEA. 4. If time, start to write MAIN IDEA or TOPIC SENTENCES for each group of cards.

Yesterday, we grouped our research and started writing main idea sentences (the bread.) Today…. Using the “Rule of Three” we begin writing the sentences that will go in the middle of your paragraphs. Each paragraph should begin with main idea. Have THREE supporting details or pieces of evidence and end with a concluding paragraph. The Rule of Three

Skateboarding is not the safest sport you can ever play. Guess I learned that the hard way! According to statistics, nearly 100,000 skaters each year require treatment due to skateboard related injuries that is why it is a must to wear safety gears and apparels like those being sold at skateamerica.com. I’ll be going there just as soon as I’m done with my research paper.

If you're wondering what is the most common body part that is affected by skate related injuries the answer is your wrist not your heels or legs. I wasn’t planning for any injuries when I headed out the door with my favorite Zero board.

Skateboarding is popular in the whole wide world but majority of them in is America especially to the state of California where it originally rooted.
