What happened?

Today’s Lesson Connecting the past to the present and future! How the industrial revolution influenced the global population focusing on 1.Technology 2.Agriculture 3.Medicine 4.Education

Technological Advances Industrial Revolution lead to technological advances such as: the use of new basic materials, chiefly iron and steel, the use of new energy sources, including both fuels and motive power, such as coal, the steam engine, electricity, petroleum, and the internal-combustion engine

Technological Advances the invention of new machines, such as the spinning jenny and the power loom that permitted increased production with a smaller expenditure of human energy, a new organization of work known as the factory system, which entailed increased division of labor and specialization of function,

I thought we were talking about population? We Are! But population is a very complex issue that is influenced by many factors. To better clarify how its connected…

Technological growth helps drive population growth Technological growth drives agricultural growth allowing for a boom in available food, and to sustain more people More technology means less people working on farms for food, which leads for more time for trading and academics More academics sets the foundation for more innovation to come. (more technological growth)

Medical Advances Industrial revolution lead to advances in communication, which allowed for quick exchange of ideas through telegraph and railway

Medical Advance New factories and better technology produce better medical supplies such as syringes and needs and lenses for microscopes

Medical Advances People moved into cities to work at factories This mean people were living very close together in unsanitary (dirty) conditions Disease spread quickly This made people look for cures such as vaccines, medication and scientific causes for illness not just superstition and guessing!

This means More production = more people = bigger population More disease= looking for cures= medical advances Medical advances= people living longer= bigger population

Educational Advances

Agricultural Advances
